Kati Basti is one of the famous treatments used in Ayurveda to use diffused medicated natural oils, natural herbs, ghee, milk, water or important natural oils on the back.
This process allows natural herbs to significantly submerge into the deeper layers of skin, muscles, ligaments etc for a healing impact.
Kati Basti is a type of deeply pacifying massage of traditional Indian medicine system called Ayurveda, in which soothing warm herbal oil is retained on the lower part of back area using a ring made from special lentil dough.
The natural oils used for this treatment are specifically chosen according to Ayurvedic body type or body constitution type. The oil is maintained within the ring at a particular temperature for a particular time.
This allows the oil to penetrate further into the cells, softening the firm and limited muscles.
Once the oil is removed the ayurvedic therapist massages particular marma (energy) points around the involved place to restore muscle, ligaments, tendons and related structures.
This procedure is followed by a hot herbal fomentation treatment i.e Nadi Swedana for 15 minutes which apply a jet of herbalised steam to the Back.
The herbalised steam enhances the impact of the Kati Basti and allows the oil flow further into the muscles.
It is usually done in a course of 5 to 7 days as required according to Ayurveda doctor.
